Yondan Testing Requirements

The yondan exam is a comprehensive examination of everything the practitioner knows about Aikido. Each exam will be customized to its practitioner. Anything and everything can be asked on the yondan exam. All material from previous tests must be exceptional and material never previously covered on an exam is fair game too. Suggested study topics include:

  1. Basic Techniques
    1. Be prepared to show Levels of Training (katai, yuwarakai, ki-no-nagare), suwari waza, hanmi handachi, and ushiro-waza
  2. Multiple Attackers
    1. Static holds
    2. Jiyu-waza
  3. Kaeshi-waza
  4. Riai
  5. Henka-waza
  6. Oyo-waza
  7. Teaching With Ukemi
  8. Tachi-dori, Jo-tori, and Jo-nage
  9. All Bukiwaza curriculum at all Levels of Training (katai, yuwarakai, ki-no-nagare) with henka-waza
